A BRIEF HISTORY OF BLODGETT RANCH
Home of BR A CUT ABOVE
Blodgett Ranch was founded in 1971 in Elk Grove, CA, by Ray and Irene Blodgett. They began by breeding and raising Appaloosas, while at the same time their children began showing horses in 4H. In his younger days, Ray worked for a riding stable saddling horses for customers and cleaning stalls. As their business grew, both Ray and Irene knew they wanted to turn Blodgett Ranch into a full-blown horse ranch.
In 1976, Ray began showing Appaloosas, specializing in Working Cow Horse. His stallion at the time, Poco Leo Banner, won many accomplishments, including National Cutting Horse. Ten years later, Blodgett Ranch foaled a quarter horse stallion, BR A Cut Above, which showed in many futurities and won the Non-Pro Snaffle Bit Futurity in Oregon.
Currently, Blodgett Ranch is showing two quarter horses, RSR Im A Cut Above in Reining and Working Cow Horse and BR Suzy Quixote in Cutting. It should be noted that BR A Cut Above is the sire of RSR Im A Cut Above.
In recent years, Irene has shifted her focus away from horses and now specializes in training and showing dogs. She was a Schipperke dog breeder for many years, having garnered titles in AKC, UKC and NADAC competitions. Now Irene shows two Australian Shepherds, BR Howdy Pardner's Dance Fever and BR Pandenmoneum Lucy, in Obedience and Agility. Click here to see some of Irene's dogs and accomplishments.
